2021 Cathay Sustainable Finance and Climate Change Summit

    Over 1,500 people signed up for the event, the highest in the past five years. The event brought together 6 world-renowned speakers in the field of ESG to share sustainability trends with Taiwanese audience, and also recommend feasible actions for companies to take in response to climate change. Well-known representatives of the domestic industry, government, and academia sectors also shared their experiences during the event to align Taiwan with international standards in the field of ESG. Chairperson Tien-Mu HUANG of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) stated in his remarks that he was pleased to participate in the Summit today, which is an iconic forum, and he was pleased to know that the forum had 1,500 registers, including 39 of the top 50 enterprises in Taiwan. Enterprises that signed up for the event account for 51% of Taiwan's total carbon emissions.

Past Events

Taiwan‘s Climate Change Roundtable Forum (2017)

Cathay FHC organized Taiwan‘s Climate Change Roundtable Forum in 2017. More than 20 top management from Taiwan’s significant industries were invited to share their opinions on climate change and their climate actions. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore was the keynote speaker who shared the latest developments on climate change and urged companies to respond to climate risks and opportunities.

 

Taiwan Climate Change Forum (2018)

In 2018, we invited international organizations such as CDP and PwC to share the practices of climate actions in the form of workshops. A total of 86 individuals and 55 companies participated in the event in 2018.

 

Climate Change Forum (2019)

In 2019, we hosted Climate Change Forum in cooperation with TWSE and AIGCC, broadening the target audience to all the listed companies besides our investee companies. We invited the Director of AIGCC to share progress of TCFD implementation in Asian countries and other regions. We also hosted two parallel panel discussions on implementation of TCFD and carbon reduction. 
The number of participants in 2019 jumped significantly with a total of 154 participants from 91 companies joined the event. More than half of the companies in the FTSE TWSE Taiwan 50 Index took part in the event.

    Cathay Sustainable Finance and Climate Change Summit (2020)

    Cathay worked with Taiwan Stock Exchange again to incorporate sustainable financial issues and expanded the Summit in 2020. We invited business leaders, chief government officials of competent authorities on climate change, and sustainable finance experts from the academia to jointly discuss trends and practical experience. 
    293 people from 157 companies attended the event. The listed companies attendees accounted for 70% of the total market value of TWSE and 40% of Taiwan's total carbon emissions, which indicated it was an important event for promoting sustainable development in Taiwan.
